Med-View Airline, one of Nigeria's longest-running Hajj and scheduled passenger carriers, suspended its commercial flight operations in late August 2019 after its sole remaining active aircraft, a Boeing 737-500, was taken out of service for technical reasons. The airline, listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange since 2017, said the aircraft required an engine replacement and that the fault did not amount to a formal suspension of its licence, insisting it had not informed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority or any other agency that operations had been halted.
A Carrier Under Mounting Pressure
Management said two other aircraft in its fleet were undergoing heavy maintenance checks at facilities in Estonia and with Aero Contractors in Nigeria, and that the airline intended to concentrate its remaining capacity on inbound Hajj pilgrim flights from Saudi Arabia. The suspension capped a period of financial strain for the carrier, which had posted a large after-tax loss the previous year, and set the stage for the NCAA to later review Med-View's operating status over its prolonged inactivity.
